Ariane 6: Europe's versatile new modular rocket for guaranteed access to space
The Ariane 6 rocket represents five decades of European aerospace evolution. Designed to be modular and adaptable, this new launch vehicle ensures Europe maintains independent access to space while supporting future scientific missions and satellite constellations.
The Ariane 6 programme is a collaborative effort involving 13 countries and thousands of contributors. Led by the European Space Agency, the project relies on ArianeGroup as the primary contractor, CNES for launchpad infrastructure, and Arianespace for commercial launch services.
The rocket features a modular design with two or four boosters to adjust for mission requirements. Its upper stage is engineered to reignite multiple times, allowing for precise placement of spacecraft into various orbits before performing a controlled atmospheric reentry. This flexibility is intended to support Earth observation, scientific research, and emerging technological services.
