Testing the first expandable habitat in Earth's orbit
In short: NASA is preparing to test a new type of modular living space aboard the International Space Station. This video explores the installation of the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM) and its role in preparing for deep space exploration.
Following a SpaceX Dragon cargo craft launch, the Tranquility module's aft berthing port received the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM) on April 16. This marks the first time an expandable habitat has been attached to the station.
The two-year test serves as a critical study of habitat concepts intended for future deep space missions. Following its installation, the module was scheduled to be inflated in late May, with crew members entering the space in early June to verify its condition.
