A new era for the ISS as its crew size doubles
In short: Watch how NASA and its international partners manage a high-density orbital laboratory. This video profiles the specific astronauts and cosmonauts joining Expedition 24, highlighting the unique mix of spaceflight veterans and first-time explorers.
On June 15, 2010, three crew members launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome to join an existing team on the International Space Station. This transition saw the station's population double as Doug Wheelock, Shannon Walker, and Fyodor Yurchikhin joined Tracy Caldwell Dyson, Mikhail Kornienko, and Alexander Skvortsov.
The mission highlights a blend of experience: while Wheelock and Yurchikin are veterans, Walker became the first native Houstonian to visit space. Together, they conducted research on human biology, plant growth, fluid physics, and semiconductor crystal development.
