Europe is upgrading its global satellite navigation network with a powerful new generation.

The European Space Agency is developing the Galileo Second Generation, a fleet of advanced satellites designed to improve the precision and reliability of the world's most accurate navigation system. This update introduces significant technical enhancements to ensure better positioning and timing services for billions of users worldwide.

The Galileo Second Generation, or G2, represents a major leap forward for Europe's satellite infrastructure. By integrating fully digital navigation systems and electric propulsion, these satellites will work alongside the existing constellation to provide more robust service. Key upgrades include improved antenna performance, the ability for satellites to communicate directly with one another, and a more sophisticated arrangement of atomic clocks.

The project is a collaborative effort managed by the European Commission, with the European Space Agency overseeing research, design, and development. Meanwhile, the European Union Agency for the Space Programme manages the operational side of the system, ensuring these technological advancements translate into reliable navigation services for global users.
