How Europe launched its own global satellite navigation system
In short: With 18 satellites now in orbit, the European Union has activated the first phase of Galileo. This video explores the collaborative effort that enables precise positioning, navigation, and timing for citizens and businesses worldwide.
The transition to Initial Services marks a significant milestone toward reaching Full Operational Capability. This phase was made possible through a partnership between the European Commission, the European GNSS Agency (GSA), and the European Space Agency (ESA).
Available options comprise the Open Service, the Public Regulated Service (PRS), plus the Search and Rescue Service (SAR). A complete suite of services is expected once the satellite constellation and ground infrastructure are fully finalized.
