Can we find life-sustaining stars by launching rockets from the Australian outback?

NASA teams travel to Australia to launch rockets aimed at Alpha Centauri A and B. This mission investigates how stars influence the habitability of their orbiting planets, marking the start of a six-part series exploring stellar environments.

The mission focuses on Alpha Centauri A and B, our closest stellar neighbors. By studying these stars, researchers aim to uncover the mechanisms that determine whether a star creates conditions suitable for life on nearby planets.

The project is a collaboration involving NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center and the University of Colorado Boulder's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics, utilizing the SISTINE instrument. The launches take place in Australia, supported by Equatorial Launch Australia and the Northern Territory government.
