The hidden architecture of the space shuttle's launch pad
In short: Astronaut Mike Massimino takes you on a rare, intimate tour of the space shuttle's exterior and the high-tech facilities where astronauts prepare for the void.
The video provides a detailed look at the space shuttle while it sits on launch pad 39A at the Kennedy Space Center. It highlights the physical complexities of the vehicle's construction and the infrastructure required for its ascent.
Before the shuttle tour, Massimino explores the virtual reality laboratory at the Johnson Space Center. This facility is a critical training ground where astronauts use simulations to practice and prepare for the high-stakes environment of spacewalks.
