A historic handover marks the end of the shuttle era
In short: NASA has officially transferred the title of the space shuttle Endeavour to the California Science Center. This move initiates the final journey for the iconic spacecraft from active service to a permanent public home.
The ownership transfer, which occurred on October 11, is the first phase of a plan to house Endeavour at the Science Center in Exposition Park. The California Science Center is one of only four institutions in the United States selected to receive a shuttle.
The shuttle will eventually be transported to Los Angeles International Airport via a 747 shuttle carrier aircraft. Following that, the spacecraft will travel across the city's roads toward its ultimate location. The move follows the completion of necessary display preparations and post-mission work.
