How space-grown lettuce is being planted in Washington, D.C.
In short: NASA and the USDA are bridging the gap between Earth and orbit. This video covers a collaborative effort to plant seeds that are siblings to the crops harvested aboard the International Space Station.
NASA Deputy Administrator Dava Newman and USDA Deputy Secretary Krysta Harden sowed 'Outredgeous' Red Romaine Lettuce seeds within the USDA’s People’s Garden on October 5, 2015. These seeds are related to those grown and harvested on the International Space Station.
The pair also formalised an interagency pact to increase support for youth pursuing STEM and agricultural professions.
