The final press conferences before the next crew departs for orbit

Next space station crew meets the Press · 18:27 · Video: NASA · Watch at the source

In short: Before the SpaceX Crew-12 mission launches to the International Space Station, the astronauts will face their final media opportunity. This briefing serves as the last moment of terrestrial connection for a crew preparing for a nine-month journey into the vacuum of space.

On January 30, NASA and its international partners will host two distinct news conferences to discuss the upcoming crew rotation. The first, a Mission Overview News Conference, will feature leadership from NASA and SpaceX, including Ken Bowersox and Steve Stich, to discuss launch preparations and mission logistics. This is followed by a virtual crew news conference from the Johnson Space Center crew quarters, featuring the astronauts themselves.

The Crew-12 team is a multinational group: Commander Jessica Meir (NASA), Pilot Jack Hathaway (NASA), Mission Specialist Sophie Adenot (ESA), and Mission Specialist Andrey Fedyaev (Roscosmos). For Meir, this marks her second flight to the station; she previously served 205 days during Expedition 61/62 and participated in the first three all-woman spacewalks. For Hathaway and Adenot, this mission represents their first journey to the orbiting laboratory.

The mission is scheduled to launch no earlier than Sunday, February 15, aboard a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft propelled by a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. While the crew is preparing for a nine-month mission, NASA is currently reviewing options to potentially advance the launch from its original target date. This rotation represents the 12th crew rotation flight under the Commercial Crew Program.

The lineage of station crews is a continuous cycle of international cooperation. Previous rotations, such as Expedition 46-47, included commanders like Yuri Malenchenko and engineers like Tim Peake, illustrating the long-standing collaborative nature of the International Space Station's human presence.
