The logistical lifeline: how cargo ships sustain life in orbit
In short: Space exploration relies on a constant flow of supplies. This video tracks the launch of the Progress 40, a critical cargo vessel designed to keep the International Space Station operational.
Launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on October 27, the Progress 40 began a three-day journey to the International Space Station. It serves as a vital transport for the Expedition 25 crew, carrying 2 tons of essential food, fuel, and supplies.
The mission was timed to ensure the station was fully stocked before the scheduled November 1 launch of the space shuttle Discovery for the STS-133 mission. The ship was destined to dock with the Pirs Docking Compartment on October 30.
