The grueling physical transition from orbit back to Earth's gravity

Sophie Adenot's return to Earth - Statement from Cologne Airport · 10:45 · Video: European Space Agency, ESA · Watch at the source

In short: After nearly eight months in space, astronaut Sophie Adenot has returned home. This video captures her arrival in Cologne and explains the intensive medical and scientific process required to readapt a human body to life on Earth.

Following a 237-day mission aboard the International Space Station, Adenot arrived in Cologne on October 10. Because the human body undergoes significant changes in microgravity, she will spend two to three weeks at the :envihab facility. This German Aerospace Center (DLR) site is specifically designed for data collection and medical support during the recovery phase.

The transition is a collaborative effort between ESA and DLR teams, who provide the expertise needed for readaptation. Adenot's journey concludes with continued rehabilitation and follow-up activities with the European Astronaut Centre training team to ensure a full return to terrestrial life.
