Why a routine space mission was cut short by water in a helmet

Space Station Spacewalk Ended Early for Malfunction · 9:10 · Video: NASA · Watch at the source

In short: On July 16, a planned maintenance mission outside the International Space Station came to an unexpected end when a sudden equipment malfunction threatened visibility and safety.

The video details the July 16 spacewalk involving NASA's Chris Cassidy and the European Space Agency's Luca Parmitano. Originally intended to rig cables for an upcoming Russian laboratory module, the mission lasted only 1 hour and 32 minutes.

The excursion was terminated early after Parmitano reported water accumulating inside his U.S. spacesuit helmet. While the malfunction forced the duo to complete only one task each, NASA confirmed that Parmitano was not in danger and the interrupted maintenance tasks were not time-critical.
