Scott Kelly and Mikhail Kornienko prepare for a record-breaking year in space
In short: NASA and international partners gathered in Paris to detail an upcoming year-long expedition aboard the International Space Station. This mission, featuring astronaut Scott Kelly and cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko, represents the longest single space flight ever attempted by an American.
The mission, scheduled to launch in March 2015, serves as a significant milestone for human spaceflight. By extending the duration of a single stay aboard the orbiting laboratory, the crew aims to gather critical data on the effects of long-term space exposure on the human body.
The Paris briefing, held at UNESCO headquarters on December 18, included representatives from NASA, Roscosmos, the European Space Agency, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, and the Canadian Space Agency. This collaborative effort underscores the international nature of the International Space Station program.
