The First Commercial Spacecraft Successfully Reaches the International Space Station
In short: In May 2012, SpaceX achieved a milestone by becoming the first private company to deliver supplies to the International Space Station. This video documents the historic moment when astronauts captured the Dragon cargo capsule using the station's robotic arm.
On May 25, 2012, NASA astronaut Don Pettit and European Space Agency engineer Andre Kuipers operated the Canadarm2 robotic arm to secure the SpaceX Dragon craft. The vehicle had launched three days earlier from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
The capsule remained attached to the Harmony module for six days, allowing the crew to offload essential cargo. Following the mission, the spacecraft was detached and returned to Earth, concluding with a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean near southern California.
