Three satellites are preparing to map the Earth's magnetic field from Northern Russia
In short: This video documents the final preparations for the ESA Swarm mission at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome. It captures the integration of three satellites with their launch vehicle and the snowy conditions surrounding the site just before their scheduled departure to study our planet's protective magnetosphere.
The Swarm mission consists of a constellation of three satellites designed to measure the magnetic field across the entire Earth, from its core to the outer edges of the magnetosphere. This protective bubble is essential for shielding the planet from harmful solar radiation and particles. The mission is set to launch on a Rockot vehicle from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in Northern Russia.
The footage covers the launch campaign, including the roll-out of the satellites on 18 November 2013 and their subsequent hoisting onto the launcher. Bruno Bergaglio, the ESA Swarm Launch Campaign Manager, provides an on-site report detailing the integration of the satellites with the Breeze-KM upper stage and the aerodynamic fairing. The mission is scheduled for lift-off at 13:02 CET on 22 November 2013.
