Capture the Orion Nebula using consumer photography hardware
In short: You do not need an expensive telescope to photograph the cosmos. This video demonstrates how accessible equipment, including point-and-shoot cameras and binoculars, can capture stunning astronomical targets.
Scott Manley explores how to achieve deep-sky photography without spending thousands of dollars. He proves that photographing the Orion Nebula is achievable using a standard compact camera featuring manual settings, sufficient aperture, and 10x optical zoom. He even notes that the moon can be photographed using nothing more than a cellphone camera and a pair of binoculars.
The presentation features an Orion Skyview Pro mount and a 100mm f/6 telescope. While the specific telescope is no longer available from Orion, Manley suggests modern equivalents such as the 120mm f5 or the ED 80mm F/7.5, which offers lower chromatic aberration.
