The legendary demon king returned to find his peaceful legacy turned into a hierarchy
In short: Two millennia after sacrificing his life to end a cycle of war, Anos Voldigoad has reincarnated. But the peace he died for has birthed a new era of discrimination, where pureblood demons rule and his very name has been erased from history.
The story of Anos Voldigandum is one of a failed utopia. Two thousand years ago, the Demon King struck a deal with the human hero, Kanon, to sacrifice himself to ensure peace between the four races. He even established magical barriers to prevent the different species from clashing. However, the peace he created inadvertently weakened demon magic and allowed a new, rigid social order to emerge. The hero Kanon, who participated in this original pact, was a man who could revive himself seven times through his unique sources.
Upon his reincarnation, Anos finds a society obsessed with lineage. Royal demons now rule over lower-class hybrid demons—those descended from interbreeding with humans or spirits. This era is further complicated by the presence of a false demon king, Avos Dilhevia, who holds power under a forgotten identity. Anos must navigate the Demon King Academy, where his immense power and intelligence are dismissed, labeling him a total misfit. The current social structure is heavily influenced by the status of pureblood descendants, such as the lineage of the Elder Demon Emperor Ivis Necron.
The narrative is populated by figures from the past and present, including the twins Misha and Sasha. Other key players include Lay Glanzdlii, the reincarnation of the hero Kanon, who carries the guilt of being unable to end the original war, and Eleonore Bianca, whose magic was once exploited to create human-made clones. The academy's history is also marked by the presence of Misa Ilioroagu, the daughter of the Great Spirit Leno, and the former teacher Emilia Ludowell, who eventually experienced life as a hybrid.
