The high cost of protection: marriage as a survival strategy
In short: In the world of the Yozakura family, marriage is not just a romantic milestone; it is a tactical necessity. To survive a lineage of superhuman spies, an ordinary man must navigate a web of overprotective siblings and blood-bound abilities, turning a domestic union into a high-stakes defensive maneuver.
The series centers on Taiyo Asano, a kind-hearted man who enters a marriage with Mutsumi Yozakura, the tenth head of a prestigious spy family. This union is born from a specific survival requirement: the family's absolute rule of 'No killing among family.' By marrying Mutsumi, Taiyo secures a legal and social shield against her eldest brother, Kyoichiro, who is psychotically overprotective and willing to use lethal force to guard her. Kyoichiro utilizes the 'Steel Spider,' a manipulation of steel threads, and a 'Blooming' ability that allows him to corrode everything in his path. To function within this world, Taiyo undergoes rigorous training that transforms him from an ordinary human into a superhuman spy. Utilising 'Yae', he employs a revolver capable of discharging electricity rather than projectiles, which also converts into a katana.
Furthermore, through a blood transfusion from Mutsumi, Taiyo gains access to the family's 'Blooming' abilities—specifically the power to harden his body. This biological integration highlights the series' core theme: the sacrifice of personal autonomy for the sake of familial preservation. These distinct physiological characteristics of the Yozakura family are fueled by 'Someinine.' Despite Mutsumi's lack of fighting skills, she alone can sire offspring since she generates the Someinine necessary for such powers. This creates a dynamic where the family's survival depends on a delicate balance of genetic inheritance, specialized skills—ranging from hacking and medical genius to martial arts—and the strategic necessity of domestic bonds to mitigate internal violence.
The series is currently serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump and has been adapted into an anime television series, with a second season scheduled for 2026.
