Lech Poznań secures back-to-back titles in the historic 100th Polish Football Championship
In short: The 2025–26 Ekstraklasa season marked a monumental milestone for Polish football. As the 100th edition of the national championship, the competition saw Lech Poznań cement their dominance, securing their second consecutive title and navigating a season defined by high-stakes promotions and intense relegation battles.
The 2025–26 season, officially known for sponsorship reasons as the PKO Bank Polski Ekstraklasa, was a landmark year for the league. It represented the 100th season of the Polish Football Championship and the 92nd season of the country's highest domestic division since its inception in 1927. Under the operation of Ekstraklasa S.A., the tournament followed a round-robin format featuring 18 teams. Each club competed in 34 matches, splitting their schedule equally between home and away fixtures.
Lech Poznań emerged as the defending champions, clinching their second straight title following a 3–1 victory against Radomiak Radom on 16 May 2026. While Lech Poznań took the top spot, the battle for the remaining positions saw Górnik Zabrze finish as runners-up and Jagiellonia Białystok secure third place. This season also marked the ninth time the league employed Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology to assist officiating.
The campaign was shaped by significant movement between tiers. Arka Gdynia was the first to secure promotion from the 2024–25 I liga, returning to the top flight after a five-year absence following a win on 4 May 2025. Bruk-Bet Termalica joined them after a draw on 17 May 2025, ending a three-year absence, while Wisła Płock secured the final promotion spot after a play-off victory on 1 June 2025, returning after two years. Conversely, the league saw the departure of Śląsk Wrocław and Stal Mielec, who were relegated on 11 May 2025, alongside Puszcza Niepołomice, who were relegated on 12 May 2025 after two seasons in the top flight.
