In short: Before she was a household name on The One Show, Alex Jones was navigating the world of Welsh-language broadcasting. Her journey from a classroom in Carmarthenshire to international television involves unexpected career pivots, a notable mix-up with a rock star, and a profound connection to her Welsh heritage.

Born Charlotte Alexandra Jones in 1977, the presenter's path to mainstream success was far from linear. Raised in Tycroes, she attended Maes-yr-Yrfa, a Welsh language school, and remains fluent in the language. While her primary language at home was English, her early career was deeply rooted in Welsh-language programming on S4C, where she hosted shows such as Cân i Gymru, Hip neu Sgip?, and Salon.

Her transition to British mainstream television was marked by both tenacity and eccentricity. Following her studies in film, television, and theatre at Aberystwyth University of Wales, she held a role researching for TV. This period included a memorable professional mishap where she was dismissed after mistaking Mike Peters, the singer from the band The Alarm, for a repairman sent to fix an office alarm.

By July 2010, Jones had ascended to a major role as the female co-host of BBC One's The One Show, succeeding Christine Bleakley. Her versatility has since seen her host everything from the gymnastics competition Tumble to the fashion-focused Shop Well for Less? alongside Steph McGovern. Beyond entertainment, she has used her platform for significant philanthropy, notably raising over £1.2 million for Sport Relief in 2014 by being dragged up a 1,200 ft rock formation in Utah.

Her contributions to her culture were formally recognized in August 2015, when she was appointed to the Gorsedd of the Bards at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in Meifod, Powyl, an honor celebrating her impact on Welsh culture.
