In short: Founded in 1930, Aris Limassol spent decades oscillating between the top and second tiers of Cypriot football. Yet, a recent influx of investment and a tactical overhaul have propelled this historic club from the brink of obscurity to their first-ever national title and a historic European group stage appearance.

Aris Limassol, a founding member of the Cyprus Football Association, has long been a fixture of the Limassol sporting landscape. Despite its longevity, the club's history was defined by instability. Financial difficulties forced the team to cease operations in 1939, and upon their 1952 return, they struggled to maintain a foothold in the First Division. For much of the 20th century, the club functioned as a 'yo-yo' team, frequently relegated and promoted, with only brief flashes of success, such as their 1989 Cypriot Cup final appearance and the high-profile signing of 1975 European Footballer of the Year, Oleg Blokhin, in 1990.

The turning point arrived in the summer of 2021, when Belarusian investor Vladimir Fedorov took control with the explicit goal of elevating Aris into an elite Cypriot club. The impact was immediate. Under the guidance of head coach Aleksey Shpilevsky, the team secured their first-ever Cypriot First Division title in the 2022–23 season. This historic achievement was bolstered by individual excellence, with Aleksandr Kokorin named the league's most valuable player and Shpilevsky recognized as the best coach of the season.

This new era has also seen the club break into European competition. After a debut in the 2022–23 UEFA Europa Conference League, Aris reached a significant milestone in the 2023–24 season by qualifying for the group stage of the Europa League, becoming the seventh Cypriot club to achieve this feat. While the club maintains a smaller fan base than its local rivals, its recent trajectory suggests a permanent shift in status. Beyond football, the Aris brand remains culturally significant in Limassol, notably through the Aris choir, which was established in 1938 and continues to perform internationally as a prominent Hellenic musical institution.
