In short: Born in a small Uzbek village, Bogdan Guskov transitioned from a ventilation installer and nightclub bouncer to a ranked UFC light heavyweight. His path was far from linear, involving a three-year hiatus from sports and a series of regional tournaments before finally breaking into the world's premier mixed martial arts organization.

Born on 12 September 1992 in the village of Dukent, Uzbekistan, Guskov grew up in an ethnic Russian family with limited financial means. His early athletic interests spanned athletics and volleyball, but his eventual path toward combat sports was initially met with maternal opposition. With his aunt’s financial support, he pursued boxing and kickboxing until his competitive success secured him free training. Alongside his athletic pursuits, he earned a secondary specialized education as a welder at the Dukent Radio Engineering College.

At 19, Guskov moved to Moscow, where he spent three years away from competitive sports, working as a ventilation system installer and later as a club bouncer. He returned to combat sports at 22, eventually transitioning from boxing and kickboxing to mixed martial arts. His professional MMA career began in December 2015 with a first-round victory. Before signing with the UFC, he compiled a 14–2 record and a four-fight win streak across various regional promotions, including MMA-SERIES and FIGHT NIGHT GLOBAL.

Guskov’s UFC tenure has been marked by rapid adjustments and high-stakes matchups. He debuted on short notice in September 2023 against Volkan Oezdemir. Despite early setbacks, he secured consecutive Performance of the Night awards in 2024 for his victories over Zac Pauga and Ryan Spann. His career has also seen significant challenges, including a majority draw against former champion Jan Błachowicz in December 2025 and a fifth-round technical knockout loss to Magomed Ankalaev in July 2026. As of 3 October 2026, Guskov holds the #11 spot in the Meta UFC light heavyweight rankings, reflecting his persistence in a highly competitive division.
