In short: Before becoming a top-ranked UFC flyweight, Brandon Royval worked within the juvenile justice system. From his early training in Denver to high-stakes championship bouts, his career is defined by resilience, striking records, and a relentless pursuit of victory in the octagon.

Born in Denver on August 16, 1992, Brandon Royval began his martial arts journey at age 15, training in Muay Thai and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. After a successful amateur career with a 5–0 record, he turned professional in 2012. His early years were largely spent in the Legacy Fighting Alliance, where he secured the LFA Flyweight title by defeating Nate Williams via a first-round armbar on November 22, 2019. He first entered the professional ranks in 2012. Before his title win, he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Casey Kenney for the interim championship.

Royval's transition to the UFC began on May 30, 2020, with a submission victory over Tim Elliott. This marked the start of a career characterized by high-intensity performances that frequently earned him 'Fight of the Night' honors. His striking ability reached a statistical peak during a June 28, 2025, bout against Joshua Van at UFC 317, where the two fighters landed a combined 419 significant strikes, setting a record for a three-round UFC flyweight fight. His performance against Matt Schnell also earned him a bonus. Additionally, he secured a Performance of the Night award following a knockout of Matheus Nicolau.

Despite setbacks, including a broken wrist in late 2022 and multiple concussions that forced him out of a March 2025 bout, Royval has remained a top contender. As of July 11, 2026, he holds the #3 spot in the Meta UFC flyweight rankings. His recent victory over Lone'er Kavanagh at UFC 329 on July 11, 2026, via a third-round rear-naked choke, further cemented his standing in the division. He previously faced Alexandre Pantoja for the flyweight title at UFC 296. He also secured a split decision victory against former champion Brandon Moreno.
