The bantamweight fighter who trades knockout blows and conspiracy theories
In short: Bryce Mitchell is a study in contradictions. An economics graduate and cattle farmer, he has achieved elite status in the UFC bantamweight division. Yet, his career is defined as much by his controversial political stances and fringe beliefs as it is by his rare, technical submission victories.
Born in Texarkana, Arkansas, in 1994, Mitchell transitioned from a decorated high school wrestler to a professional mixed martial artist. He first gained prominence on the reality series The Ultimate Fighter: Undefeated, where he reached the semi-finals before losing to the eventual winner, Brad Katona. Since joining the UFC, he has climbed to the #15 spot in the Meta UFC bantamweight rankings as of September 2026. Before his professional MMA career, he competed in varsity basketball. He also earned a second-place finish at the 7A state championships during his junior year of high school wrestling.
Mitchell's technical skill is highlighted by a rare feat: his December 2019 victory over Matt Sayles via a 'twister' submission. This was only the second time in UFC history that a fighter won using that specific move. This performance earned him the 2019 Submission of the Year award from several outlets, including Sherdog and MMA Fighting, and helped secure him a new four-fight contract.
Beyond the octagon, Mitchell lives a rugged, self-sufficient lifestyle on his Arkansas farm. However, his public persona is heavily marked by intense controversy. He has expressed belief in various conspiracy theories, including claims that the U.S. government stages mass shootings and that gravity is a hoax. In early 2025, he faced widespread condemnation for making antisemitic remarks and denying the Holocaust, including claims that the Holocaust 'ain't real.' Despite this, UFC president Dana White stated he would not face disciplinary action, citing free speech protections. His controversial rhetoric has extended to calling Elon Musk a false prophet. He has also voiced skepticism regarding the legitimacy of the Federal Reserve.
