They secured third place during the 2006 World Championship, the 2007 World Cup, and the 2009 European Championship. Their most recent significant achievement includes earning a silver medal at the 2025 World Championship. Additionally, the team has been a frequent contender in the World League, reaching the semi-finals in 1994, 2004, 2006, 2012, and 2013.

The team's performance has often been shaped by strategic coaching and the integration of new talent. Under coach Milorad Kijac, a mix of experienced players like Evgeni Ivanov and Vladimir Nikolov with new talents like Teodor Salparov helped the team reach the semi-finals in 2004.
