In short: Before his long career as an NFL journeyman, Case Keenum rewrote the record books at the University of Houston. He remains the only player in Division I FBS history to surpass 20,000 total yards and throw for over 5,000 yards in three separate seasons, cementing his status as a collegiate legend.

Case Keenum's path to professional football began in Abilene, Texas, where he excelled at Wylie High School. Despite his high school success, he was largely overlooked by major programs, receiving only one scholarship offer from an FBS university: the University of Houston. He arrived in 2006, initially redshirting behind future NFL quarterback Kevin Kolb. By 2007, Keenum began to emerge, eventually securing the starting role through his efficient passing and composure in the pocket.

His collegiate career was defined by staggering statistical output. Between 2008 and 2011, Keenum dominated the NCAA landscape, setting all-time marks for passing yards, total offensive yards, and touchdown passes. His 2011 season was particularly historic; after being granted a sixth year of eligibility, he shattered the career passing touchdown record against Rice and surpassed Timmy Chang’s career passing yardage record. Despite these accolades, including two Sammy Baugh Trophies and two Conference USA MVP awards, he went undrafted in 2012.

Keenum’s professional journey saw him play for numerous franchises, including the Texans, Rams, and Vikings. His most notable NFL moment occurred during the 2017 season with Minnesota, where he led the team to a 13-3 record. He orchestrated the famous 'Minneapolis Miracle' in the playoffs, a last-second 61-yard touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs that secured a victory over the New Orleans Saints. Though his NFL career has been defined by movement between teams, his collegiate dominance remains a singular achievement in the history of the sport.
