From undefeated prospect to UFC standout: the rise of Daniel Zellhuber
In short: After an unblemished 11–0 start in professional MMA, Daniel Zellhuber transitioned from the Contender Series to the global stage of the UFC. Now a fixture in the Lightweight division, his career has been defined by high-stakes battles and recognition for his most intense performances.
Born on July 7, 1999, Daniel Olvera Zellhuber began his professional mixed martial arts career on September 24, 2016, at Jasaji Fighting League. His early dominance was marked by a technical knockout victory over Sergio Vazquez, a win that helped him build an undefeated record of 11–0 before entering the highest level of the sport.
A spot in the major leagues was confirmed for Zellhuber during Dana White's Contender Series fifth season. He won a unanimous decision against Brazil's Lucas Almeida on September 21, 2021, resulting in a professional UFC contract. He made his official UFC debut on September 17, 2022, against Trey Ogden, resulting in a unanimous decision loss.
Since joining the UFC, Zellhuber has become known for high-action bouts. He secured a unanimous decision win against Lando Vannata on April 15, 2023, and a submission victory via anaconda choke against Christos Giagos on September 16, 2023, which earned him a Performance of the Night award. His ability to engage in intense competition was further highlighted in 2024 during a split decision loss to Esteban Ribovics at UFC 306, a bout that earned him a Fight of the Night award and multiple nominations for Fight of the Year.
Despite facing setbacks, including a loss to Michael Johnson on July 19, 2025, and a technical knockout loss to King Green on February 28, 2026, Zellhuber remains a notable figure in the Lightweight division's competitive landscape.
