From Partridge Family bass player to radio host and professional wrestler, Danny Bonaduce's wild career.
In short: Danny Bonaduce rose to fame as the wisecracking middle son on The Partridge Family, but his life beyond the sitcom proved far more volatile. From celebrity boxing matches and professional wrestling to radio hosting and public controversies, Bonaduce has navigated a career defined by constant reinvention and personal turbulence.
Born in 1959, Danny Bonaduce began his career as a child actor, most notably portraying the bass-playing Danny Partridge on the hit 1970s sitcom The Partridge Family. Despite his early success, Bonaduce later described a difficult upbringing marked by abuse from his father, TV writer Joseph Bonaduce. His time on the show was not without challenges; co-star David Cassidy noted in his 1994 memoir that Bonaduce often struggled to memorize his dialogue, though he remained close with Cassidy until the latter's death in 2017.
Following the show's conclusion in 1974, Bonaduce transitioned into a multifaceted career that spanned reality television, radio, and combat sports. He hosted various radio programs in cities including Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, and New York, eventually settling into a long-running morning show at Seattle's KZOK-FM from 2011 until his retirement in 2023. His life frequently intersected with controversy, including a 2007 physical altercation with reality star Jonny Fairplay at the Fox Reality Awards, which resulted in a police investigation that ultimately cleared Bonaduce of battery charges on the grounds of self-defense.
Bonaduce's personal life and public persona have often blurred, most notably in the 2005 VH1 reality series Breaking Bonaduce, which documented his struggles. An ordained minister and a black belt in Tang Soo Do, he has also engaged in celebrity boxing matches against figures like Donny Osmond and José Canseco. In recent years, Bonaduce has faced significant health challenges, including surgery for hydrocephalus in 2023. After decades in the spotlight, he announced his retirement from radio in December 2023, choosing to relocate to Palm Springs to focus on his health.
