Two brothers inherit a secret drug empire in this sharp Pakistani-American crime comedy
In short: When their wealthy father dies, two brothers discover his legitimate business is a front for a massive criminal enterprise. This Hulu series blends dark humor with high-stakes crime, following the siblings as they attempt to manage their father's illicit legacy while keeping their secret hidden from everyone they love.
Created by Abdullah Saeed, Deli Boys premiered on Hulu in March 2025. The narrative centers on Mir, a hardworking son eager for approval, and Raj, a carefree party enthusiast, who find themselves thrust into the operations of Dark DarCo. Guided by their father's former confidante, Lucky, the brothers must navigate the complexities of running a drug empire while maintaining the facade of their family's public-facing company. The series draws creative inspiration from a variety of classic and contemporary works, including mob dramas, workplace comedies, and satirical television.
The production, which filmed in Chicago, faced initial delays due to industry strikes before wrapping in April 2024. Upon release, the show earned significant critical praise, holding a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics frequently highlighted the chemistry between leads Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh, as well as the standout performance of Poorna Jagannathan, who won an award for her supporting role at the 2025 Gotham TV Awards. Reviewers noted the show's ability to balance farcical humor with authentic cultural perspectives, offering a distinct take on established mafia tropes.
Despite its strong reception and a second season release in May 2026, the series was cancelled later that year. During its initial run, the show demonstrated high audience engagement, ranking among the most-streamed titles on Hulu and reaching significant demand levels in the United Kingdom. While some critics suggested the series occasionally lacked emotional depth, it was widely recognized for its fast-paced dialogue, unpredictable storytelling, and successful integration of Pakistani-American experiences into the crime comedy genre.
