In short: How does an honest police officer's family end up at the helm of a criminal empire? This period crime thriller explores the gritty evolution of Mumbai's underworld, tracing the transition from local turf wars to sophisticated international gold smuggling operations that reshaped the city's history.

Set in 1964 Bombay, the narrative follows Ismail Kadri, a devout Muslim police officer whose integrity is systematically dismantled by the criminal nexus of Suleiman "Haji" Maqbool, Azeem Pathaan, and Anna Rajan Mudaliar. After his best friend Ahmed is murdered and Ismail is fired from the force, financial desperation pushes him toward Haji's illegal activities. This personal collapse sets the stage for his son, Dara, to navigate a path of violence and power that would eventually define the city's underworld.

The transition of power occurs over several decades. By 1977, during a state of emergency, the original criminal trio is briefly arrested but later released. Meanwhile, Dara emerges as a skilled street ruffian, engaging in violent turf wars and extorting local shopkeepers. A pivotal turning point arrives after his friend Nasir is murdered by Pathaan's nephews; seeking revenge, Dara enters into a strategic alliance with Haji. This partnership grants him a 25% stake in contraband operations and provides the foundation for what would become known as D-Company.

The organization innovated by moving beyond local crime to international smuggling, specifically targeting gold via Bombay Airport through alliances with Dubai Sheikhs. As Dara builds a lavish lifestyle of construction investments and high-end parties, he faces internal betrayals and external hits from rivals like Ganya Surve. The saga concludes with an all-out gang war that forces the government to impose a city-wide curfew, ultimately seeing Dara flee to Dubai while his father remains in Bombay, a testament to the fractured legacy of their shared history.

The series is based on S. Hussain Zaidi's 2021 book detailing sixty years of Mumbai's mafia history. It features a cast portraying real-life figures, including Ibrahim Kaskar as Ismail and Dawood Ibrahim as Dara, capturing the transformation from domestic struggle to globalized crime.
