How a teenage poet turned a guitar into a global conversation
In short: Before he was topping the UK charts, Jack Savoretti was a teenager lost in notebooks and clouds. What began as a private passion for poetry transformed when his mother handed him a guitar, revealing a powerful truth: music allows the world to truly listen to your words.
Born in Westminster in 1983, Savoretti’s early life was defined by movement. Raised in London and later living in Lugano, Switzerland, his upbringing at the American School in Switzerland left him with what he calls a 'transatlantic mutt' accent. This European fluidity is reflected in his discography, which spans eight studio albums, including the 2024 release 'Miss Italia', his first project to feature mostly Italian tracks. His heritage is equally diverse, with a father from Italy and a mother of German, Polish, and Jewish descent.
His transition from poet to musician was driven by a discovery of engagement. While he initially used writing to retreat into his own head, the introduction of melody provided a new way to interact with the world. This evolution led to a career marked by unconventional marketing and high-profile collaborations. In his early years, his label even pioneered a tour of Caffè Nero cafés to reach audiences. He has since shared the stage with artists ranging from Corinne Bailey Rae and Gavin DeGraw to Kylie Minogue. His early professional journey included duets with Shelly Poole and a single that reached number 90 in the UK.
Savoretti's success is anchored by several number-one albums on the UK Albums Chart, notably 'Singing to Strangers' in 2019 and 'Europiana' in 2021. While his music has found a home in television soundtracks like 'One Tree Hill' and 'Sons of Anarchy', his upcoming ninth album, 'We Will Always Be the Way We Were' (scheduled for April 2026), promises a return to his musical roots in Ladbroke Grove and Portobello Road. The singer's family history is marked by resilience, as his grandfather once led the Italian partisan resistance against German forces in Genoa.
