From a jail cell to the WWE: the rise of Jacob Fatu
In short: At 18, Jacob Fatu was arrested for robbery. Today, he is a powerhouse in WWE's The Bloodline. Driven by the sight of his cousins on a jailhouse television, Fatu has transformed from an independent wrestler into a multi-time champion, building a legacy within the legendary Anoaʻi wrestling dynasty.
Jacob Fatu's journey to professional wrestling was sparked by a moment of unexpected inspiration. While serving time for robbery at age 18, he watched his cousins, Jonathan and Joshua, on a television in jail. This encounter motivated him to pursue a career in the ring, eventually leading him to join the storied Anoaʻi family of Samoan wrestlers. While a student at Sacramento's Rosemont High School, he participated in football. This early athletic experience provided a foundation for his physical prowess in the ring.
Fatu's rise through the independent circuit was marked by significant championship success. He achieved a historic 819-day reign as the MLW World Heavyweight Champion, the longest in that promotion's history, before signing with WWE in 2024. His transition to the global stage saw him join the prominent stable known as The Bloodline, initially as a heel alongside his cousin Solo Sikoa. Before his major success in MLW, he competed for various independent promotions like All Pro Wrestling and DEFY Wrestling. He also secured the PCW Ultra Tag Team Championship alongside The Almighty Sheik.
Following his WWE arrival, Fatu has captured several championships, such as the WWE United States Championship and the WWE Tag Team Championship, with the former earned at WrestleMania 41. His career has been defined by complex narrative shifts, moving from a villainous enforcer to a 'face' after betraying Sikoa, and eventually re-aligning with Roman Reigns to acknowledge him as Tribal Chief. His recent history includes a high-stakes feud with Braun Strowman that culminated in a Last Man Standing match. He also participated in a memorable six-man tag team match at Crown Jewel.
