How a Samoan wrestling dynasty achieved a record-breaking tag team reign
In short: Born into the legendary Anoaʻi family, Jimmy Uso has helped redefine tag team wrestling. Alongside his twin brother Jey, he has secured nine WWE tag team championships, including a historic 622-day reign that stands as the longest male tag team championship reign in the company's history.
Jonathan Solofa Fatu, known professionally as Jimmy Uso, is a central figure in the storied Anoaʻi family of professional wrestlers. Born on August 22, 1985, in San Francisco, he is the twin brother of Joshua Samuel Fatu. Trained from childhood by his father, WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi, Jimmy made his professional debut in 2007, eventually joining WWE's developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling, in 2010. He attended the University of West Alabama alongside his sibling. His professional journey began as part of a duo called The Samoan Soldiers.
As part of The Usos, Jimmy and Jey achieved unprecedented success within WWE. After capturing both the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships, they uniquely secured them at once as the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions. Their supremacy is evidenced by a 622-day stint as WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions, marking the longest male tag team reign in WWE history. The pair famously utilized the Siva Tau, a traditional Samoan war dance, during their ring entrances. They also famously adopted face paint similar to their uncle, Umaga, to honour their heritage.
Throughout their career, the duo has secured nine tag team championships in total. Their accolades include four World Tag Team Championships and two Slammy Awards for Tag Team of the Year, earned in 2014 and 2015. Beyond their championship success, they have headlined major events, including WrestleMania 39 - Night 1, cementing their status as one of the most decorated teams in the industry. Their impact is further highlighted by their victory in a high-profile six-man tag team match against The New Day.
