In short: Born into a lineage of political and intellectual influence, Jitin Prasada has navigated the complex landscape of Indian governance for over two decades. From his early career in the Indian Youth Congress to his recent shift to the Bharatiya Janata Party, his path reflects the evolving dynamics of regional and national power.

Born in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, in 1973, Jitin Prasada emerged from a family deeply embedded in public service. His grandfather, Jyoti Prasad, held various legislative roles, while his great-grandfather, Jwala Prasada, served as an Imperial Civil Service officer. His lineage also connects to the broader cultural history of India through his great-grandmother, Purnima Devi, who was the youngest daughter of Hemendranath Tagore, brother of the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. Educated at The Doon School and later earning an MBA from the International Management Institute, Prasada entered the political arena in 2001 as a general secretary for the Indian Youth Congress.

Prasada’s electoral career began in 2004 when he was elected to the 14th Lok Sabha from his hometown of Shahjahanpur. By April 2008, he had become one of the youngest ministers in the Cabinet, serving as the Minister of State for Steel. During this period, he focused on local development, notably advocating for the conversion of the meter gauge railway track in Lakhimpur Kheri to a broad gauge line, a move that bolstered his support during the 2009 elections. His committee work during the 14th Lok Sabha spanned diverse sectors, including information technology, communications, and civil aviation.

The year 2021 marked a significant turning point in his career. After serving as the Congress party's in-charge for West Bengal, Prasada resigned from the Indian National Congress on 9 June 2021 and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Shortly thereafter, on 26 September 2021, he was appointed as a cabinet minister by the government of Uttar Pradesh. His political momentum continued into the 2024 Indian general election, where he secured a victory in the Pilibhit Lok Sabha constituency, capturing 607,158 votes—representing 52.3% of the total votes polled. Beyond his legislative duties, he remains active in the non-profit sector as a permanent trustee for the Srijan Jitendra Prasada Foundation and the Children of Gandhi Foundation.
