Judea Skies "JuJu" Watkins entered the collegiate stage with unprecedented expectations. After an impressive high school stint at Sierra Canyon, the top-ranked 2023 prospect and five-star recruit joined USC. Her freshman season was nothing short of historic: she set the NCAA Division I freshman scoring record, surpassing Tina Hutchinson’s 1984 mark, and became the first freshman since 2010 to score 50 points in a single game. Before her collegiate debut, she earned national high school player of the year honors and secured two gold medals at the youth international level.
Her sophomore campaign saw Watkins reach even greater statistical heights. By November 2024, she became the fastest player in USC history to reach 1,000 career points, achieving the feat in just 38 games. Her adaptability was evident when she tallied 38 points, 11 rebounds, eight blocks, and five assists during one match versus UCLA—a feat unmatched by any Division I athlete for two decades. Despite her individual accolades, including winning the 2025 Naismith College Player of the Year and the John R. Wooden Award, her momentum was abruptly interrupted. During the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament, a game against Mississippi State, Watkins suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee. The injury required surgery and forced her to sit out the entire 2025-2026 season, leaving the basketball world to wonder how much further her record-breaking trajectory would have gone. Even while sidelined, her influence remains significant through her extensive commercial partnerships.
