From Ohio State standout to WNBA's fifth overall pick
In short: Jacy Sheldon’s journey from a high school scoring machine to a professional basketball star is defined by resilience. After overcoming a concussion and a significant foot injury, she rose through the collegiate ranks at Ohio State to become a highly sought-after talent in the 2024 WNBA draft.
Born on August 23, 2000, Jacy Sheldon established herself as a premier talent during her time at Dublin Coffman High School. Her high school career was marked by prolific scoring, including a school-record 52 points in her senior season. Despite facing setbacks, such as a concussion following a car accident before her junior year, she earned state Division I Player of the Year honors and left her school as the all-time leader in points, assists, and steals.
Sheldon’s collegiate tenure at Ohio State showcased her versatility and durability. After being rated a five-star recruit by ESPN, she navigated a productive career that included earning second-team All-Big Ten honors as a sophomore and first-team All-Big Ten honors as a junior. Even when sidelined by a foot injury during her senior season, her impact remained evident, leading her to be considered a potential first-round pick for the WNBA.
Her professional career began with the Dallas Wings, where she was selected fifth overall in the 2024 WNBA draft. Sheldon has since become a frequent subject of league movement, moving from the Wings to the Connecticut Sun in February 2025, then to the Washington Mystics in April 2026, and finally to the Chicago Sky. Beyond the court, she has balanced her playing career with leadership roles, serving as the Director of Player Development at Ohio State and participating in Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball.
Sheldon's influence extends into the commercial sphere through a signature shoe deal with HOLO Footwear. Signed in August 2024, the partnership includes an equity stake in the company. Her first signature sneaker, the JS:01, was released to the public on July 18, 2025.
