In short: Born in 1983, Kimberly Perry rose to prominence as the lead of The Band Perry, a group that dominated country charts before pivoting toward pop. After a decade of accolades and industry shifts, Perry has embarked on a new chapter as a solo artist, redefining her sound and creative identity.

Kimberly Perry first entered the music scene as a teenager, performing in her own band while her brothers, Neil and Reid, served as roadies. Her early development was bolstered by training at Jan Smith Studios in Atlanta, which refined her vocal technique. By 2008, the siblings were discovered by Bob Doyle, the manager of Garth Brooks, leading to a contract with Republic Nashville. Their debut single, 'Hip to My Heart', arrived in 2009, but it was the 2010 breakthrough hit 'If I Die Young' that cemented their status. As the sole writer of the track, Perry became only the fourth woman to win the Country Music Association Award for Song of the Year with a solo composition.

The band's early success was marked by a string of chart-topping country hits, including 'Better Dig Two' and 'All Your Life', and their 2013 album 'Pioneer' reached number one on the Top Country Albums chart. However, the group's trajectory shifted in 2015 when they signed with Interscope Records to pursue a more pop-oriented sound. This transition proved challenging, as their planned third studio album never materialized, and the group eventually left the label in 2018. Following a period of limited success with pop material, the band announced an official hiatus in March 2023 to allow the members to pursue individual projects.

For Kimberly Perry, this hiatus marked the beginning of a solo career. She signed with RECORDS, a subsidiary of Columbia, and released her debut solo EP, 'Bloom', in June 2023. This project included 'If I Die Young Pt. 2', a song deeply connected to her personal life, as she revealed she had suffered a miscarriage before recording it. The EP was later expanded into 'Superbloom' in October 2023. Beyond her professional milestones, Perry’s personal life has seen significant changes, including her marriage to Johnny Costello in 2021 and the birth of their child in August 2023, marking a period of profound transition.
