From basement grappling to UFC dominance: the rise of Kyle Daukaus
In short: Raised in Northeast Philadelphia, Kyle Daukaus spent his childhood wrestling his brother in a basement. Today, he is a two-time Cage Fury Middleweight Champion and a UFC veteran, known for high-stakes submissions and a career defined by significant weight fluctuations and resilient returns.
The professional journey of Kyle Daukaus began with a significant physical transformation. After high school, Daukaus weighed approximately 260 pounds, leading his coach to suggest he compete in the heavyweight division. However, he eventually dropped his weight from 205 pounds to 185 pounds to compete in the middleweight division, where he currently fights in the UFC.
Daukaus’s path to the Ultimate Fighting Championship was not linear. He first appeared on Dana White's Contender Series 18, where he secured a unanimous decision victory over Michael Lombardo. Following a stint in the UFC that included a debut against Brendan Allen on June 27, 2020, Daukaus eventually fought out his contract in early 2023.
Since leaving the UFC, Daukaus has found success in the Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC), capturing the Middleweight championship twice. His second title reign included successful defenses against Sean Connor Fallon on February 9, 2024, and Keanan Patershuk on June 14, 2024. He has also demonstrated remarkable grappling skill, setting a UFC record for the fastest D'Arce choke submission victory at 50 seconds against Gerald Meerschaert on November 15, 2025.
Despite setbacks, such as a scheduled bout against Aliskhab Khizriev being pulled due to COVID-19 protocols in April 2021, Daukaus has remained a prominent figure in the sport. His resilience is highlighted by his return to the UFC in August 2025, where he defeated Michel Pereira via knockout in the first round, earning a Performance of the Night award.
