Maroon 5's eighth studio album marks a significant departure from their previous commercial success
In short: Released in August 2025, Love Is Like represents a shift for the pop rock band as they returned to internal songwriting. Despite featuring high-profile guest artists and a global tour, the record struggled to gain traction, becoming the group's first studio project to miss the top-ten in the United States.
Following a four-year gap since their 2021 release Jordi, Maroon 5 unveiled their eighth studio album, Love Is Like, on August 15, 2025. During their Las Vegas residency, frontman Adam Levine pushed the band to move away from the reliance on external writers that characterized their recent work, such as 2017's Red Pill Blues. Instead, the group aimed to recapture the collaborative spirit of their early days, with bassist Sam Farrar playing a more prominent role in the creative process.
The album incorporates a sample-based production style, blending pop, R&B, and hip-hop with elements of soul and funk. It includes collaborations with artists like Lisa, Lil Wayne, and Sexyy Red. Despite this, the project faced a lukewarm reception. Metacritic reported a score of 50 out of 100 based on four reviews, with critics like Linnie Greene of Pitchfork describing the music as uninspired background noise. The commercial performance was notably weaker than previous efforts; it failed to reach the top-ten on the US Billboard 200, selling approximately 18,000 units, and did not secure a position on the UK Albums Chart.
The album's rollout included four singles: 'Priceless', 'All Night', 'California', and the title track. While the lead single 'Priceless' reached the top-ten in eighteen regions, the album as a whole lacked the chart-topping momentum of its predecessors. The band supported the release with a 54-date tour spanning North America, Europe, Asia, and South America, concluding in February 2027. Ultimately, the record stands as a pivot point for the band, marking the first time in their history that a studio album failed to produce a top-40 hit.
