How a football-themed teaser signaled the return of Love Island's thirteenth series
In short: In May 2026, a neon-lit football stadium and a bouncing beach ball set the stage for Love Island's thirteenth series. This unique teaser, airing alongside the 2026 FIFA World Cup, promised a summer of 'spicier villa action' and intense competition, blending sports imagery with the show's signature high-stakes romance.
The thirteenth series of Love Island premiered on 1 June 2026 on ITV2, filmed in Mallorca. This installment saw the return of host Maya Jama and narrator Iain Stirling. The production also introduced a new dimension to its spin-off content; following the departure of Amy Hart and Indiyah Polack from the previous podcast, 'Love Island: The Morning After', a new visualised podcast titled 'Love Island: The Debrief' was launched. Fronted by Yasmin Pettet, Shakira Khan, and Toni Laites—the previous series' top three finishers—this podcast debuted simultaneously on digital and TV, airing weekdays from 10 pm until 10:30 pm.
The series was marked by several notable departures and family connections among the contestants. When the initial cast was unveiled on 26 May 2026, it was disclosed that Aidan Murphy and Kavan are brothers, and contestant Halle Brown is Wes Brown's daughter, the retired footballer. The season also faced controversy regarding contestant exits. George Knight left the villa on Day 5; while he initially cited family problems, it was later revealed he was removed for using offensive language. Additionally, Gabriel Garland was removed from the villa on Day 24 following allegations involving a stabbing.
The competition reached its conclusion on 27 July 2026. Julia Majchrzak and Lorenzo Alessi were crowned the winners, securing 62.4% of the public vote. They defeated the runner-up pairing of Jasmine Müller and Kavan Murphy. This instalment arrived after a hectic period for the brand, which featured the 'Love Island: All Stars' third series during January and February 2026.
