The plumber with a dark past and a mysterious mission
In short: When Mike Delfino first arrived on Wisteria Lane, he seemed like a wholesome neighbor. But behind his friendly plumber persona lay a history of prison time, addiction, and a personal vendetta that would eventually pull him into a web of murder, revenge, and family secrets.
Born in Texas on January 25, 1966, Mike Delfino's life was shaped by profound trauma. After his father was imprisoned for murdering a coworker, Mike struggled with drug addiction and even killed a police officer in self-defense. These events led to a 66-month sentence in a Kansas prison, beginning in 1987. Following his father's arrest, Mike was raised by his mother, Adele, and his maternal grandfather.
His arrival in Fairview was not accidental. Posing as a local plumber, Mike was actually working as a private investigator, hired by the father of his former fiancée, Deirdre Taylor. He was on a mission to uncover the truth about her disappearance, a search that intertwined his fate with Susan Mayer. During a 1988 prison visit, a conjugal encounter with Deirdre resulted in the birth of his son, Dana.
The character's journey was marked by extreme volatility, including a six-month coma following a hit-and-run by Orson Hodge and a period of retrograde amnesia. His personal life was further complicated by a struggle with painkillers and a devastating car accident involving Lila and Paige Dash, which ultimately led to his divorce from Susan. His addiction to medication was discovered by Bree Van De Kamp, leading to a confrontation where Susan eventually insisted he enter rehab.
Despite facing financial ruin, debt, and even being framed for murder, Mike's narrative arc centered on his enduring, albeit turbulent, connection to Susan. By the series finale, after surviving a high-stakes confrontation with the vengeful David Dash, Mike and Susan found themselves reunited, even as they were forced to leave Wisteria Lane behind. The couple's financial struggles became so severe that they eventually rented out their Wisteria Lane home to Paul Young.
