Why the legendary "Pentagón" name is considered a curse in lucha libre
In short: In the high-stakes world of Mexican professional wrestling, certain names carry a heavy weight. For the performer known as Pentagón Jr., his very identity is tied to a superstition. To defy the bad luck associated with his namesake, he adopted a fierce new mantra: Cero Miedo, or Zero Fear.
Born in Ecatepec de Morelos on February 5, 1985, the wrestler known as Pentagón Jr. has built a career defined by both intense rivalry and technical mastery. In the tradition of lucha libre, he has never been unmasked in the ring, preserving the mystery essential to his persona. This identity was significantly reshaped in 2012 when he was reintroduced by Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide as the arch-enemy of Octagón Jr., mirroring the classic rivalry of the original Pentagón.
His rise through the ranks included a victory in the 2016 Rey de Reyes tournament and a stint in the American television series Lucha Underground between 2014 and 2018. During his time in Lucha Underground, he developed a brutal storyline involving breaking his opponents' arms, a theme that eventually saw him become the Lucha Underground Champion. His career has seen him traverse major promotions, including CMLL, Impact Wrestling, and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, often working alongside his brother, Rey Fénix.
The performer's journey has also been marked by legal and branding complexities. After leaving AAA in 2017, he briefly performed as Penta el 0M to avoid trademark issues. Since then, his career has reached new heights, including a period in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) with the Death Triangle stable and a 2025 signing with WWE. In the latter, he has competed under the mononym Penta, recently capturing the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
