In short: Ravonna Renslayer began as a 40th-century princess caught in the crossfire of Kang the Conqueror's empire. Over decades of comic book history, she has transcended her role as a damsel in distress, transforming into a lethal assassin, a ruler of Chronopolis, and a complex figure across infinite timelines.

First appearing in Avengers #23 in December 1965, Ravonna was created by Stan Lee and Don Heck. Originally the daughter of King Carelius, she was a captive in a kingdom Kang sought to annex. Her relationship with Kang was defined by volatility; she once threw herself in front of a blast meant for him, falling into a deathlike coma. While Kang attempted to save her, his failure to prioritize her over his vendetta against the Avengers led to a bitter resentment that fueled her eventual turn toward vengeance.

Ravonna's narrative arc is defined by her adaptability and mastery of 41st-century technology. She has operated under various guises, including the Terminatrix and the Temptress, and has manipulated figures like Doctor Druid to infiltrate the Avengers. Her story is rarely linear, as she frequently appears in alternate realities, including a version granted the power of retroactive reincarnation that allows her to exist across different species and genders, such as an iteration of Moon Knight.

The character's reach extends far beyond the printed page. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she appears in the 2021 series Loki as a judge for the Time Variance Authority, portrayed by Gugu Mbatha-Raw. This version reveals a different layer of her history as a former commander for He Who Remains. Whether she is ruling the extra-temporal kingdom of Chronopolis or navigating the Void, Ravonna remains a pivotal, shifting constant in the complex web of Marvel's temporal storytelling.
