In short: Tate Reeves transitioned from the world of investments to the highest office in Mississippi. Since his inauguration in January 2020, the 65th governor has focused on conservative economic policies, educational reform, and managing the state's response to historic natural disasters that have repeatedly impacted the region.

Born on June 5, 1974, in Florence, Mississippi, Tate Reeves began his professional career in the financial sector. After graduating from Millsaps College in 1996 with a degree in economics, he became a Chartered Financial Analyst. His early career included roles at Park South Corporation and a position as a financial portfolio manager at Trustmark National Bank until 2003.

Reeves entered state politics in 2004, serving as the 53rd treasurer of Mississippi until 2012. During this tenure, he applied his background in investments to advocate for balancing the state budget and minimizing debt. He is noted for passing the largest tax cut in Mississippi’s history to encourage private investment and job growth. Following his time as treasurer, he served as the 32nd lieutenant governor from 2012 to 2020.

In January 2020, Reeves was sworn in as the 65th governor of Mississippi. His administration has prioritized public safety, criminal justice reform, and the implementation of innovative telehealth technology. His leadership has also been defined by managing the state's response to consecutive historic natural disasters. In 2023, he was narrowly reelected to a second term, defeating Brandon Presley.

The governor's personal life includes his wife, Elee Williams Reeves, an honors graduate of Millsaps College who holds an MBA. Together, they have three daughters: Tyler, Emma, and Madeline. Reeves is currently serving as the 2026 States’ Co-Chair for the Appalachian Regional Commission.
