The starless tamer who was cast out for being weak
In short: In a world where skills are ranked by stars, Ivy is a social pariah. Labeled with a "no-star" Tamer skill, she is shunned by her family and village as a source of misfortune. But what if having no limit is actually a hidden strength?
The series, written by Honobonoru500 and illustrated by Nama, follows Ivy, a girl reborn into a world where individuals possess multiple skills ranked by stars. Ivy's life was upended when it was discovered she possessed only a "no-star" Tamer skill. This status led to her being tormented and abused by her once-loving family and the residents of Latomi village, who viewed her as a harbinger of misfortune. The original web novel was published on the site Shōsetsuka ni Narō. TO Books later acquired the series for light novel publication.
Driven into the forest to survive, Ivy was aided by a local fortune teller named Luba, who provided education and supplies. Following Luba's death, Ivy adopted a boy-like appearance and the name Ivy to evade capture by villagers who blamed her for the fortune teller's passing. In reality, the village chief had refused to provide medicine to Luba as retribution for her sympathy toward Ivy, contributing to the village's eventual decline. She eventually travels with a black panther-like beast called Ciel. This companion was also rescued by Ivy and Sora while dying.
The narrative reveals that the "no-star" rating is a misunderstanding; rather than being weak, the lack of stars signifies that the skill has no limit, making Ivy the most capable Tamer in existence. Her journey involves taming creatures like Sora, a slime monster found on the verge of death, and Ciel, an adandala resembling a black panther. The story has expanded from its August 2018 web novel origins on Shōsetsuka ni Narō into a light novel series, a manga, and an anime adaptation by Studio Massket. The series includes a spin-off manga featuring school settings. This adaptation was published between 2022 and 2024.
