In short: Eight-year-old Pride Royal Ivy suddenly recalls her past life, realizing she is the cruel antagonist of a video game. Destined to become a tyrannical queen and meet a violent end, she decides to use her foresight and newfound compassion to protect her people and rewrite her tragic future.

The narrative originates from a Japanese light novel series by Tenichi, which first appeared online in April 2018. The story centers on Pride Royal Ivy, who finds herself reincarnated within the world of a game called Our Ray of Light. In the original version of this story, Pride is a sadistic, abusive ruler who eventually falls at the hands of her own sister, Tiara. This version of events leaves a trail of trauma for those around her, including her adopted brother Stale and the knight Arthur Beresford, who both suffer under her original reign.

Upon regaining her memories, the current Pride chooses a path of benevolence. She leverages her knowledge of the original timeline to intervene in crises before they escalate. For instance, she saves the life of Arthur's father, Rodrick, and assists the chancellor Gilbert Butler in protecting his wife. These actions fundamentally alter the trajectory of the kingdom of Freesia. By treating those around her with kindness, she earns the loyalty of individuals who were once her bitter enemies, effectively dismantling the conditions that would have led to her downfall.

A unique mechanism in this world is the lingering influence of the original timeline. Even as Pride changes her behavior, her past actions sometimes manifest through others who seem to carry out the roles the original Pride once assigned. Despite this, her ability to foresee future events and her combat skills allow her to navigate these challenges. Her relationships also shift significantly; for example, her engagement to Leon Adonis Coronaria, the first prince of the Anemone Kingdom, becomes a genuine bond rather than a tool for manipulation, as she actively protects him from his own family's schemes.

The series has expanded beyond its digital origins into print, manga, and a television anime adaptation. The anime, produced by OLM, aired its first season in 2023, followed by a second season in 2026. Through these various media, the story explores themes of redemption and the power of individual choice to reshape a predetermined fate, showing how a shift in perspective can transform a villain into a savior.
