How a social outcast turned leftover skills into survival in another world
In short: When a high school class is summoned to a fantasy realm, most students pick powerful abilities. But Haruka, a self-isolated loner, arrived too late to choose. Instead, he inherited every remaining skill left behind, forcing him to rely on ingenuity rather than raw strength to survive alone.
The series, written by Shoji Goji, began its life on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website on October 12, 2016. It follows Haruka, a student who is socially isolated from his classmates, who include various cliques like the 'Nerds', 'Delinquents', and 'Jocks'. Because Haruka attempted to escape the summoning ritual, he was dragged along late, resulting in the god granting him all the skills his classmates did not select.
One of his primary abilities is 'Master of None'. This skill allows him to acquire new abilities with incredible ease, yet it comes with a significant drawback: his level increases much more slowly than that of his peers. Despite this low level, Haruka uses his resourcefulness to combine these seemingly useless abilities to overcome difficult situations, often protecting his classmates even though they believe it is their duty to protect him.
The narrative explores the friction between Haruka's desire for a quiet, solitary existence and the chaos caused by his classmates' social dynamics and conflicts. His journey includes encounters with diverse characters, such as a female knight who was once a skeleton and the 'Dungeon Emperor' until Haruka used his 'Subjugate' skill to restore her humanity. The series has expanded from its web novel origins into a print series published by Overlap starting in January 2018, a manga illustrated by Bibi, and an anime adaptation produced by Hayabusa Film and Passione that aired between October and December 2024.
