A political movement born from a sudden, uncoordinated announcement
In short: In July 2025, a new socialist force emerged in British politics. But behind the massive surge in sign-ups lay a fractured foundation of disputed leadership, legal battles over membership funds, and a split between its two most prominent faces.
The origins of Your Party are rooted in a period of intense friction within the UK's left-wing landscape. While the party was officially registered in late September 2025, its initial momentum was driven by a July announcement from Zarah Sultana that reportedly caught Jeremy Corbyn by surprise. This early lack of coordination set the stage for a series of internal disputes regarding the party's launch, its democratic accountability, and even its gender balance.
The party's rapid growth was undeniable. Within a single week of its website launch, sign-ups exceeded 600,000, eventually climbing toward 800,000 by late August 2025. However, this expansion was accompanied by significant financial and legal turbulence. A dispute erupted over a membership portal launched by Sultana's team, leading to investigations by the Information Commissioner's Office and even threats of legal action from the Independent Alliance MPs against the directors of MoU Operations Ltd.
By late 2025, the party's internal divisions became a matter of public record. A 'proxy war' played out during the February 2026 Central Executive Committee elections, pitting Corbyn's 'The Many' slate against Sultana's 'Grassroots Left' group. The election resulted in a victory for the Corbyn-aligned faction, which secured 14 of the 24 seats. Despite the high-profile leadership struggle, the party's inaugural conference in November 2025 ultimately rejected a single leader in favor of a collective leadership model, cementing a structure of shared, albeit contested, authority.
