The voice of Roger Rabbit is also a self-taught theorist of universal numerical patterns
In short: Charles Fleischer is best known for voicing iconic characters like Roger Rabbit and Benny the Cab. Yet, his career spans far beyond animation. From early stand-up comedy and television roles to exploring the mathematical relationship between the numbers 27 and 37, Fleischer remains a singular, multifaceted creative force.
Born in Washington, D.C., in 1950, Charles Fleischer began his performance career early, appearing at a summer camp at age nine. After studying medicine at Long Island University and acting at the Goodman School of Drama, he moved to Los Angeles in 1970. He quickly established himself on the comedy circuit, landing spots on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In by 1973 and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson by 1974.
Fleischer achieved widespread recognition for his voice work in the 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit, where he voiced the title character, Benny the Cab, and two other roles. This success led to a prolific career in voice acting for Disney, including appearances in House of Mouse and various theme park attractions. His on-screen credits are equally diverse, ranging from the sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter to films like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Back to the Future Part II.
Beyond entertainment, Fleischer has pursued unconventional intellectual interests. He developed a concept called Moleeds, which posits that the numbers 27 and 37 influence everything from subatomic particles to everyday objects. He presented this theory at TED2005 and maintains an online platform called MonkeyDog to share his observations. Additionally, he has explored scientific topics, including a 2012 paper on gamma-ray bursts submitted to Cornell University, and he is often credited with coining the famous adage, 'If you remember the '60s, you really weren't there.'
Whether performing as a musician, hosting his own web show, or theorizing about the nature of infinity, Fleischer’s career defies simple categorization. His work reflects a lifelong commitment to curiosity, moving seamlessly from the improvisational comedy stage to the complexities of theoretical research.
